People in Australia are being asked to think twice about traveling to Pakistan and have been alerted to possible flight interruptions heading to India, following the outbreak of tensions between these two significant South Asian nations possessing nuclear weapons.
The revised guidance issued by Smartraveller early Wednesday advises that due to the "present security climate" between India and Pakistan, Australians should exercise extra vigilance when visiting or traveling near these adjacent nations.
The advisory suggests people planning to visit Pakistan evaluate whether travel to the country is necessary because of the “unstable security conditions.”
"We suggest keeping an eye on local media for updates, staying vigilant, taking official warnings seriously, and following the guidance provided by local authorities," the recommendation reads.
“Flight services might face interruptions because of closed airspaces and airports. Please verify with your airline prior to heading to the airport.”
The Smartraveller advisory cautioned that the Wagah border crossing in Pakistan has been shut down indefinitely, halting all cross-border movements for now.
"If you're planning to travel from Pakistan to India, think about changing your route and adhere to the guidance provided by local authorities," the message stated.

The "reevaluate your necessity to travel" warning has been activated for the Atari-Wagah border crossing, as well as the frontier regions of Chhattisgarh and neighboring Indian states.
