Women in the Northern Territory argue they have been "deprived of their choices" as the region’s sole private maternity facility prepares to shut down. Several women informed the ABC of their intentions to cross state borders for childbirth or to postpone getting pregnant entirely. Darwin Private Hospital (DPH) will be shutting down its maternity services starting from June 6, making the Northern Territory the sole region in Australia without access to a private birthing facility. It's expected to have a substantial effect on Royal Darwin Hospital (RDH) , boosting its maternity workload by approximately 13 percent, as indicated by hospital statistics.
