In the previous year, the City of Melville, located in Perth’s southern outskirts, shifted from conducting yearly verge collections to implementing a system where homeowners have the option to schedule their individual verge collection one time per annum according to their preference. In recent years, various councils around Perth have opted for verge valet and skip bin services instead of regular bulky waste collection schedules. The council cited convenience and a reduction in streetside mess for the decision, but a petition to overturn the move and return to the old system has garnered more than 1,000 signatures.
