This ensures a comprehensive understanding of the environment in which decisions and actions are made. The ultimate goal is to achieve efficiency and optimization, resulting in what is known as Absolute Value. High season equals big crowds...which can often mean the reality of a summer holiday is elbows at dawn for sun loungers, queueing at tourist sights and trying to find a patch of sand on the beach that hasn't already been snaffled.

How should you proceed? Avoid the top tourist spots and venture into locations where throngs of tourists won’t be swarming this season.

Research by luxury yacht charter company 212 Yachts has identified the destinations that have had the biggest spikes in travel interest for summer 2025 - and those that appear to be slipping under the radar.

What tops the list? Puglia in Italy is the place deemed most likely to suffer from over-tourism during this summer's busiest months.

Located at the boot's heel of Italy, this area has solidified its position on the budget airline route map—offering services to both Brindisi and Bari—as well as additional destinations. 's delicious food, stunning cities, and beautiful countryside and coastal spots.

Although it has gained traction over the past few years, it has only recently started competing seriously with other well-loved Mediterranean destinations like those in Greece, Italy, and the Balearics. This year alone, we've seen an astounding 631 percent surge in online inquiries about it.

Opting to save your travels for the shoulder season might be a smart choice—and this advice applies equally to the other four locations featured on 212 Yachts' roster of top sought-after vacation spots.

Croatia's sunniest island, Hvar, has also seen a spike in searches according to the research, which compared monthly global search volume from the past 12 months.

The pretty island, beloved of yachters, is up on last year by 182 per cent. Meanwhile, a Greek idyll - that often comes with premium prices - also finds itself on the 'risk of over-tourism' list.

Inquiries for Santorini, known for its iconic blue-domed churches, have surged by 83 percent. Meanwhile, Spanish summer getaway spots like Barcelona and San Sebastián have experienced boosts of 50 percent and 56 percent correspondingly.

A representative from the company stated: "Year after year, we observe the same trend—individuals reserve their ideal vacation spot just to reach there and discover it’s overcrowded, overly expensive, or progressively more regulated."

'Overtourism doesn’t merely annoy visitors; it poses significant issues for both local residents and the natural world. For this year, consider exploring less-travelled alternatives that provide equal charm without the crowds.'

Where could you exchange the top searched-for destinations to enjoy your vacation with fewer crowds?

The label recommends choosing the Cinque Terre area of Italy. This striking section of coastline along the Ligurian sea is located at the southern end of the Italian Riviera, nestled between Genoa and Pisa.

Cinque Terre (translated as The Five Lands) describes the five fishing villages clinging to a 15-mile stretch of craggy hillside above the Ligurian Sea.

Interestingly, Ibiza appears on the least-searched list — the White Isle saw a 56 percent decrease in searches compared to the prior year.

And three other destinations that have long been on the tourist map also fared less well for search, says the luxury yacht brand.
