This area exudes the essence of the city and is conveniently near various districts that you can readily visit on foot or by bicycle (which is a common mode of transportation here).

It could also be considered Copenhagen’s most charming neighborhood, featuring vibrant houses and houseboats along the waterways. — It seemed as though I had stepped into an illustrated storybook. Additionally, you have plenty of options among the charming small cafes, eateries, and pubs.

What to do...

Should you find yourself nearby on a balmy summer afternoon, I strongly suggest taking a refreshing swim in the canals.

Keep in mind that relative to our delightfully sunny Australian shores, the waters here might feel chilly, yet this adds to the adventure. Should your finances permit, venturing onto the water aboard a boat is quite an enjoyable experience. You can rent your own petite vessel (no boating license required) for a couple of hours, or opt for a canal cruise—either choice offers a splendid perspective of the city.

Copenhagen is an excellent location for taking a complimentary guided walk if you wish to quickly grasp the essence of the city. It often provides fascinating snippets of history.

If you’re an wonderfully disorganized Type B individual who leans towards local suggestions rather than sorting through Google reviews, they consistently provide excellent options. local spots to eat and drink.

I booked mine with GuruWalk and I highly recommend them. I've used them all across Europe and they offer a number of different tour types and times, which is very convenient.

Whether you're an art enthusiast, or not like me but fancy the odd art gallery when you're travelling, I'd highly recommend checking out the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art.

I visited primarily for the Yayoi Kusama exhibit (those mirrored infinity rooms where people take selfie after selfie), yet I found great pleasure in discovering the many other vibrant and eccentric displays as well.

The collections displayed were more out-of-the-ordinary compared to what I usually encountered at other art galleries, and this was my first experience with such pieces. truly appreciated art.

For me, the true standout was the garden featuring enormous sculptures spread across the lawn, offering views of an impressive cliffside and the ocean below. Additionally, they boast a charming small eatery where I savored a glass of rosé as I engaged in some light people-watching—a classic favorite from my vacation activities.

What to eat…

First things first — you absolutely have To lay hold of some authentic Danish pastries, my go-to approach involved alternating among different options. kanelsnegle (glittering cinnamon rolls) and the spandauer (A smooth custard dish). And indeed, this was essentially my daily breakfast choice at a new cafe each morning.

While adhering strictly to my backpacker’s budget, I decided to indulge in a somewhat fancier meal at Restaurant Grøften, situated within the historic Tivoli Gardens in Copenhagen. This establishment holds the distinction of being one of the city’s most venerable dining spots. My primary motivation for this splurge was to sample Denmark’s iconic dish, known as the tartelette. — A crunchy pastry shell stuffed with velvety chicken and asparagus filling. It tasted wonderful.

Imagine comforting, substantial dishes that truly nourish your spirit.

I opted to avoid the upscale wine bars, even though they're plentiful, and headed straight for the Bodegas instead, where my consistently down Australian dollar would go farther.

Bodecas are these somewhat rugged "bars" where the beverages are considerably cheaper (and frequented by many local patrons). — I even went along with it as well).

If you're looking for an authentic evening out, I suggest visiting Kobenhavn, known for its vibrant narrow streets filled with crowds and numerous excellent bars.

Copenhagen is bursting with art, culture, amazing food, vibrant energy, lovely people and great sustainable fashion, all wrapped up in this gorgeous little corner of the world.

This city is also among the very best for exploring alone, so consider this your cue to go ahead and reserve your travel arrangements.
