Rural communities in Australia's remote southern regions have been blanketed in snow overnight , transforming into a "fairy-tale winter scene" during autumn. Images depict the mountains spanning southwestern and central Tasmania glistening white under the early morning sun as both locals and campers faced the chilly temperatures.

As a café chef made her way to work in the tranquil township of Maydena, she readied herself for another day filled with hearty meals like substantial breakfast platters, fluffy waffles, and savory bacon-egg rolls. Just then, she noticed an unusual coating atop the neighboring peaks. The area has experienced quite arid conditions lately, but this fresh snow could potentially lure tourists out for some scenic views.

“We're quite rural, some call us remote. And we’re on a dead-end road on the way to Lake Pedder so most people don’t stop here. But if they’ve got a two-wheel drive and they don't have snow chains, people sometimes come out this way to find some snow,” Jeanette Callow told Yahoo News on Thursday morning.

Even though the temperature has risen between 3 and 10 degrees, the snow remains untouched on Mount Mueller, Tyenna Peak, and Mount Field West. Janet described the area as appearing "enchanting" today.

Around Tasmania, people have been sharing images of the snowfall on social media pages.

A photograph from the Little Pine Lagoon campground in Tasmania’s Central Highlands seems to depict snow measuring around 20 centimeters thick, with a beer can placed nearby for reference.

In the southwestern region, snow has been recorded at elevations as low as 600 meters above sea level, reports the Bureau of Meteorology. Mountainous areas exceeding 900 meters saw temperatures drop drastically below freezing point.
