Kate Shines as Royals Gather at Westminster Abbey for VE Day 80th Anniversary Service

King Charles and Queen Camilla he led a Service of Thanksgiving at Westminster Abbey on Thursday to commemorate the occasion. 80th anniversary of Victory in Europe Day at the conclusion of World War II in Europe.

The larger royal clan was present, including Princess Anne , Prince Edward and his wife, Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh .

But all eyes, including Prince William 's, were on Catherine, Princess of Wales .

Kate amazed wearing a white Alessandra Rich dress adorned with black polka dots, reaching slightly below the knee.

This was complemented by a black Juliette Botterill hat, adorned with elegant netting across her forehead.

The Princess of Wales completed her outfit with nude-colored heels and handbag along with pearl jewelry, featuring the Collingwood pearl earrings previously belonging to her late mother-in-law, Princess Diana.

Queen Camilla also opted for an ensemble featuring white accented with black, donning a white crepe silk dress and coat from Anna Valentine’s collection, paired with a striking black and white headpiece by Philip Treacy.

Both King Charles and Prince William chose blue suits, with their medals affixed to their chests.

The monarch was seen wearing his neck order, whereas the Prince of Wales had on his Grand Master of the Most Honorable Order of the Bath neck order.

Upon arriving at the Abbey, King Charles, Queen Camilla, Prince William, and Kate were spotted welcoming veterans seated in the front row before the commencement of the service.

The highest-ranking royals subsequently positioned themselves at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier where they observed a two-minute moment of silence.

Their Majesties King Charles III and the Prince of Wales individually placed wreaths on behalf of both veterans and those from the World War II era.

"We will never forget," was the handwritten message from King Charles.

Prince William’s card included a message, signed off by “Catherine” as well.

He penned, 'For those who made the supreme sacrifice during World War II, we will honor their memory.'

As the royal family members stood within the congregation, they joined in singing various hymns. World War II memorabilia such as a child’s gas mask, an air raid warden’s helmet, and a D-Day map were displayed close to the High Altar.

The service concluded with a performance of Dame Vera Lynn's classic song. We'll Meet Again , a song popularized by the "force's sweetheart," as she was referred to, in 1943.

In 2020, during the coronavirus pandemic, the song experienced a revival following Queen Elizabeth II’s address to the nation at the beginning of the lockdowns, where she referenced the tune.

After the ceremony, the royal family proceeded outdoors to place flowers at the memorial for innocent victims.

Following a brief pause as a sign of respect, Queen Camilla then stood beside her spouse and placed the initial bouquet.

Kate followed their example, just like the Duchess of Edinburgh and Princess Royal did, attending with their spouse Sir Tim Laurence.

The ceremony was attended by members of the royal family along with several politicians, featuring former and current Prime Ministers like Kier Starmer, Boris Johnson, and David Cameron.

However, the spotlight was largely taken over by 10-year-old Alexander Churchill—the great-great-grandson of Sir Winston Churchill, the wartime Prime Minister who informed the country about Victory in Europe Day on May 8, 1945.

King Charles and Queen Camilla will subsequently attend a concert taking place at Horse Guards Parade to commemorate the occasion, with the event being aired live on BBC.
