Disney Unveils First New Theme Park in 15 Years!

On Wednesday, Disney announced plans for its seventh theme park, which will be located in the United Arab Emirates.

The seaside retreat will be constructed on Yas Island at the edge of Abu Dhabi city, which is already hosting Formula One’s Abu Dhabi Grand Prix as well as the Ferrari and Warner Bros theme parks, SeaWorld, and a water park.

Disney and Miral, the Abu Dhabi developer managing the project, aim to take advantage of the 120 million airline travelers passing through Abu Dhabi and Dubai annually.

Although often perceived as less bustling compared to the crowded shores and vibrant nightclubs of nearby Dubai, Abu Dhabi boasts the Louvre Abu Dhabi and has several additional museums in development.

The theme park announcement comes before US President Donald Trump’s upcoming visit to the area next week. During his trip, Mr Trump plans to finalize several business agreements with Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and the UAE.

Miral will construct and run the theme park, whereas Disney will oversee the design and development. Additionally, as stated in a regulatory document, Disney plans to contribute its intellectual property through licensing and offer development and management support.

The firm from California won’t be contributing any funds towards the project. Instead, it will generate income through royalties tied to the resort’s earnings as well as via service charges.

Miral has played a role in nearly every entertainment complex constructed on the island.

An anticipated release date hasn't been revealed yet.

As the company reported robust profits and revenues during the second quarter, thanks to strong performance domestically, theme parks prospered, with the firm gaining more than a million new subscribers for its streaming platform.

The Experience segment, encompassing six worldwide theme parks along with its cruise line, merchandising, and video game licenses, saw an increase in operating income of 9%, reaching $2.5 billion. The operating income for domestic parks surged by 13%. However, for international parks within this division, the operating income fell by 23%.

Disney anticipates full-year adjusted earnings of $5.75 per share. This outlook surpasses the company’s earlier forecast for high-single-digit adjusted earnings per share growth for fiscal year 2025.
