Avita's stock price drops even with Q1 sales increase

More news: Avita Medical experienced a significant increase in revenue during the first quarter; however, this did not reassure investors. As a result, the company’s share price dropped almost 20%, falling to $2.40 on the ASX in early trading.

In the March quarter, revenues surged by 67% compared to the previous year, reaching $18.5 million. However, the gross profit margin dipped slightly to 84.7%. Net losses were reduced to $13.9 million ($21.7 million), down from $18.7 million during the same period last year. The firm maintained its forecast for annual revenue and cash flow expectations.

Avita Medical increases Q1 revenue, maintains forecast

The news: Medical tech firm Avita has increased its first-quarter revenue and confirmed its annual forecast following the release of two new products during this time.

The numbers: The net loss for the quarter ending March decreased to $13.9 million ($21.7 million) from $18.7 million during the same period last year. There was a significant increase of 67%, bringing revenue to $18.5 million. However, the gross profit margin slightly dipped to 84.7% from 86.4% over the previous year.

The firm confirmed its forecast for yearly sales to rise by 55% to 65%, placing it between US$100 million and US$106 million, and stated that it anticipates producing positive cash flow during the latter part of the year.

The context: The Nasdaq and ASX-listed firm said it launched a mini-version of its Recell Go skin repair treatment during the quarter, along with the Cohealyx collagen-based dermal matrix, helping the company shift from a service-oriented structure to a selling-oriented model.

"Following the launch of Recell Go mini in February and the national deployment of Cohealyx starting April 1st, our product range now caters to a U.S. market opportunity that has grown from $455 million to over $3.5 billion," stated CEO Jim Corbett.
