Sainz Vows Madrid’s Urban F1 Circuit Will Pack Personality

Carlos Sainz thinks the Madrid Magrin Formula 1 track will possess its own distinct personality as it blends street segments with swift and fluid turns.

On Friday, The organizers along with local authorities unveiled Madrid's 5.47km course design. That will assume control of the management for the Spanish Grand Prix starting from September next year, alongside Barcelona on the schedule in 2026, before potentially being designated as the only grand prix location in Spain.

The design combines narrow street circuit portions encircling the IFEMA convention center with an expansive area specially constructed for higher speeds, including swift turns and a pronounced incline surrounding the Valdebebas festival grounds.

Sainz, who attended the presentation as an ambassador for the event, mentioned that he assured his fellow Formula 1 drivers their new circuit would be full of personality.

Sainz stated that the drivers had enquired about the circuit, the turns, and the overall design. He reassured them by saying he would do his best to provide assistance so that the event turns out to be an exciting spectacle.

As a driver, what I seek from an F1 circuit is that it possesses charm and personality, along with many turns that set it apart.

Circuits such as Baku lack significant turns except for the part near the castle, yet they have their own charm due to extensive long straightaways, numerous opportunities for passing, and an impressive spectacle.

Jeddah stands out with its rapid twists and turns as well as its stunning features. Despite being city tracks, they each possess their own distinct personality.

What I’m asking from Madring and what we’re accomplishing is having it maintain that blend where it features a hybrid layout, incorporating a section with narrow streets resembling those within city walls, followed by a more expansive portion akin to conventional European tracks, which is precisely what us drivers enjoy the most.

The concluding section features banked turns and rapid consecutive bends… it’s exactly what we enjoy and typically observe at classic European tracks. This course offers both elements; it includes spacious areas as well as sections enclosed by walls.

As the location sits at the edge of Spain’s capital city, within reach of the busy Barajas airport and situated in easily accessible exhibition grounds, Sainz envisions that hosting the event in Madrid could propel the Spanish Grand Prix to become one of the premier fixtures on the racing schedule.

"Everything that will be around it, all the concerts and all the activations will help the city a lot," he argued.

"I think we can have the best circuit in the world and the best event of the whole calendar.

"There are going to be 24 races, and Mexico, Miami and Las Vegas are doing very well, but I sincerely believe that Madrid can beat them, and we are going to go for it."
